Paul, Check my …
Paul, Check my video: Not all Raw Foods are healthy for a full answer of which raw foods are not that healthy. On a side note: Kidney beans are poisonous if eaten raw. Buckwheat greens in moderation, and NEVER juiced should be ok for most people. I tend to not eat too many beans or gluetenous grains
Many have suggested …
Many have suggested a range of 80 to 100 percent depending on the season. Also, I tend to tie my percentage to the health of the food in question. Green tea is boil and drink immediately as it’s a powerful anti-carcinogen and anti-batercial agent. YMMV. Gabriel Cousens suggests an 80 percent lower bound. John, what are the raw items than aren’t healthy? Kidney beans, buckwheat greens, etc.

Thanks! Your approach is great. Coming from an “eating disordered” background and sometimes still struggling with those issues, trying to do anything 100 percent can be a trigger for that all-or-nothing mentality. So, while I generally eat 100 percent raw (and like you said, raw isn’t always healthy), I strive more for a behavioral balance with food, focusing on moderate portions, and the best nutrition possible with the least amount of stress involved.

Great tips John. I definitely find eating 95% low fat raw much more manageable than being stressed over 100% raw. It’s also much more inclusive to others and allows me to occasionally go out and maybe eat some of what they eat. I seem to be able to reach more people by not pushing the raw as much but encouraging the healthier ways of eating (like the steamed veg). A time of 100% low fat raw did bring healing to my body though.
