What is the best diet for a mid distance track runner?

I am an 800/1600 runner. My best 800 isnt the best but I’m hoping to drop it significantly. I need to have a healthy diet to compete with runners in my league. What should I eat? And what should I avoid?
Thanks!

What have your parents and teachers been saying since we were all little? Eat a balanced diet.

Lean meat, complex carbs, lots of fruits and vegetables (5 servings, which most of us don’t get). Avoid large amounts of saturated fats and refined sugars, these should only be occasional treats.

Then, go train hard and see how your body does with good fuel in it.

If you run, just eat whatever you want, you’ll burn it all off like I do, although it becomes a habit, and you may stop running in the future and get fat, soo watch out.

But just eat healthy. Protein, fruits and vegetables..that is it.
I dont think its what you eat that is making your time suck, I think its you, motivate yourself to just do it. In your head think of a number, and just practice. What I do is 1 day of endurance (run for a distance while pacing yourself, like say 2-3 miles *morning, then again at night*) and the other day for a challange(See how fast you can do your 16, and try to beat it, if you dont…then try again, theres no loss)
