Which is Best: Drugs or Diet?
Many people today suffer from cholesterol problems and the number grows larger every day. One reason for this might be that people are too busy with work, school , family to worry about the food that they eat. Most of us just grab a snack, or eat from fast foods or take out and do not have time to put that much thought into what we are eating. So at the end of the day we stop and think why to we have cholesterol? Well, this is the reason why!
The topic that most concerns now that we are faced with this problem is: what do we do? Do we choose the fast way and take medication, or try a diet? Well, this is mostly for your doctors to decide, but note that the first thing you should do is try a diet before choosing to take drugs. Sometimes when the patients level of cholesterol is high, both diet and medication is required. When choosing what option is best for you, doctors also have in mind a lot of different aspects.
For example, if you or any of your family members have any kind of heart or lung problems, treatment starts sooner than for a person that has no such problems. Doctors decide when to start treatment and what kind you should use depending on the level of cholesterol that you have. When the number is bigger than 180 mg/ dl, a diet and drugs are necessary in order for you to get better.
However, before you can get therapy through diet, doctors must make sure that you do not suffer from secondary effects of hypercholesterolemia.
After you have been ok’ d for the diet therapy, the next step you should take is to see a dietitian. He/ she can give you proper advice on what to eat, and can also work in groups, together with your family, so you can get the best support. If the dietitian believes that you cannot handle a diet, he/ she will prescribe drugs for you. This is very likely to happen to people that suffer from heart problems.
Dieting can be very cruel at times and very difficult, but it is a very good solution for your problems. Drugs may cause side effects, but healthy food can only do you a world of good. But before trying any of these solutions, remember to see a doctor and discuss this with him/ her first.

What is the best way to treat ADD/ADHD Diet or drugs?
My son was recently diagnosed with ADD/ADHD a combination of both. After researching the medication his doctor prescribed for him, I decided not to give the medication to to my son. The side effect of the drug could damage his heart in the long run.
Some friends of mine give their grandson omega three oils. They found a flavoured version that comes in individual packages shaped like fish. He likes the flavour and he is much more relaxed and focused. Even the teachers have commented on the difference. Good luck.

The rare side effect to the heart is VERY rare, but only you can decide if you can deal with the daily struggle while he remains unmedicated. There are no worthwhile studies supporting diet as being effective. The "gold standard" for ADHD treatment is medication and behavior modification. As a parent, prepare to be a strong advocate for your son, especially in the school system, where you will want to bring the diagnosis into his official record so that he can receive any Federally mandated help that he requires.

Good for you that you didn't use the medicine being pushed by so many schools and drug companies! You should be so very proud. And your son is blessed to have a family that cares so much for him. So many just drug them.
First of all, lots and lots of little boys are diagnosed ADHD simply for acting like little boys. It is difficult for them to sit still at a desk and do small motor activities for hours on end. They just aren't made that way. Boys are adventurous and learn by doing things. There is NO definitive test for ADHD. And most kids end up being tested simply because the teacher complains about their activity levels. The condition and treatments are being pushed by profiteering drug companies. Always follow the motive when somebody tells you something is wrong with your child. Is the motive that they care for them or that they want to make money? make their job easier? or what?
Little boys do well in active, hands-on learning environments. Their bodies and minds mature at a slower rate than little girls, so they do better with large motor skills while they are young. They learn by doing.
Is it possible to put your child in a learning environment that would appeal to his activity level? What about homeschooling? Konos has a wonderful program for active learners.
Behavior modification is helpful as long as you do remember that boys just need time to grow up. I have seen articles suggesting different omega supplements for ADHD. Also some people suggest only using complex carbs in the diet with no simple starches or sugars.

Diet definitely, there are many cases of medication for ADD/ADHD causing other conditions. Drugs don't create a healing environment in the body, natural foods and herbs do. Consult a naturopath and read Patrick Holford. When I was in school there were no kids with ADD or ADHD.
I think it is being over-diagnosed, either out of laziness or to sell drugs. Doctors are given incentives by pharmaceutical companies to sell their products.

Modifying his diet is definately a better option – here in Australia we've had a lot of news items both about the incidence of children commiting violent crimes as a result of taking Ritalin, and conversely, the amazing difference cutting out food loaded with additives makes to their behaviour.
You might also like to consider another alternative therapy which has also had a lot of success – Sound Therapy. It was developed by a French specialist, and is very simple to use: it is a listening program that can be undertaken at home. You can read all about how Sound Therapy works and the effects it has on children with ADD/ADHD at http://www.soundtherapyperth.com/benefits/add.php
